Jones and Brother KH588 Knitting Machine
Jones and Brother KH-588 Knitting Machine in A2 and complete condition. It is extremely rare to come across a knitting machine as complete as this - the only things missing are the original oil bottle, paraffin wax and the plastic bags the tools came in. This machine has had a complete restoration and is all ready to knit. I will also include a print out of the original manual. This is a small domestic knitting machine of 1960s vintage.

It has an 8 stitch push button patterning device, not a punch card or electronic patterning device, which makes it smaller, lighter, and quick and easy to set up and use compared to more complex models from the 80s. It is also a thing of beauty and is an attractive antique in its own right. It would be ideal for somebody who wants to make vintage or modern style clothing, and patterns (both in terms of stitch patterns and garment patterns) for it are readily available online. Like most machines, this is designed to use cones of yarn (not balls) and is happiest with 3 or 4 ply yarn.

This machine is also fairly quiet in use and easy and swift to set up, which means that whilst it is not quite as fast as a punch card machine, it is entirely possible to use it in front of the TV without annoying everyone in the room! I have many knitting machines awaiting restoration and sale, including many spare parts and accessories. If you are looking for something specific, please feel free to message me and I will almost certainly be able to find it for you!

To help people looking for their first knitting machine, I have made a youtube playlist of tutorials to help you get started, which are available here. I have seen and bought!

Countless machines described as fully working and complete which are nothing of the sort without many hours of work. Knitting machines are extremely sensitive to dust, neglect and age, and a machine which was working perfectly well 10 years ago will almost certainly not be working now. Old grease and yarn fibres combine to form a pretty effective glue, and the sponge bar which hold the needles down rots and crumbles into dust. Equally, complete usually means most of the bigger parts are there.

Something as small as a length of nylon cord, a clamp or even a double-ended needle can entirely prevent a machine being used. All the machines I sell are clearly marked as falling into one of the following categories. Condition A1: The machine is pristine; only the slightest signs of use. In its original box with all accessories, manuals present. Condition A2: The machine is in good condition, with only a few signs of use or age. May not be in its original box, but has all the original accessories and a copy or print out of the manual. Condition A3: The machine is in good condition, but may have some cosmetic flaws consistent with age. There is a copy or print out of the manual. All the accessories needed to operate the machine are present, but they may not be the original branded items.

Condition B: The machine is mechanically sound, but may have significant marks of age or cosmetic flaws. There may be a print out or copy of the manual. Every function works, unless specified in the listing.

Condition C: The machine has significant flaws or missing items. Aspects of the machine may be missing or not working.

All the machines I sell, unless clearly stated, have had a full restoration and/or service and a knitting test of all their functions. All the needles have been cleaned and checked, and the sponge bar has been replaced (if it needs one).

I stock all sorts of extras and spares; if you ever need anything for your machine, or it needs to be serviced, then drop me a line! The item "Jones and Brother KH588 Knitting Machine" is in sale since Thursday, January 21, 2021.
